Question: Do you think the universe is: - a large sphere that has a definite space? - a plane that stretches infinitely? - a U shape that goes infinitely in two sides?

Keywords: ,

  1. It definitely isn’t infinite – it has a finite extent and is still expanding. It is most likely approximately spherical – although perhaps Simon will know more.

  2. Good question! The Universe definitely isn’t infinite; you can think of it as an enormous sphere centred on the observer, who is (probably) on Earth. It actually doesn’t matter where in the Universe the observer is, which is quite unintuitive! This is due to the nature of space-time, which is curved.
