Question: Hi, Do you think humans have the capability of moving to other planets whether the world ends or not? If so, when will the world end and when do you think we'll move?

    Well the world will end in about 5 billion years when the sun reaches the end of its life. In the meantime, humans will probably manage to achieve many things. Hopefully one of them will not be to entirely destroy the environment of the earth, but we’ve done a pretty good job in the last 150 years.

    I’m only speculating – but I would say that humans will develop the capability of existing on other planets in the solar system in a few hundred years. Whether we can manage to travel between star systems – well, probably. But it will be a long journey! Let’s hope we can work out that where we aim to go is inhabitable before we leave!

    The world will definitely end when the Earth is engulfed by the Sun as it expands near the end of it’s life. This will happen somewhere between 4 and 5 billion years from now. Of course something may happen before then to make the Earth uninhabitable for humans, but I’d like to think that we can overcome most things that come our way!

    I’d say that we will be able to live on other planets by the end of this century. We have the technology to get to the Moon and Mars, but it will take time and a lot of money to get there. I’m probably an optimist, but I hope that once we get back to the Moon and then to Mars, people will see great opportunities going to other planets and the technology will improve and become much cheaper!

    I think the question and challenge for us is – How can we improve our use of planet Earth so that it can last and continue to sustain us? Australia will have ~35million people in 2050…

    Humans have a tremendous capacity for learning, by applying this I have no doubt they will be able to move to and colonize other planets. Simon and Matthew have given a time frame.
    Let’s just hope if and/or when it does happen, it has been brought by natural events rather than human created ones.
