I’m a Scientist is like school science lessons meet the X Factor! School students choose which scientist gets a prize of $1000 to communicate their work.
Scientists and students talk on this website. They both break down barriers, have fun and learn. But only the students get to vote.
This zone is the Boron Zone. It has a range of scientists studying all different topics. Who gets the prize? YOU decide!
I would like the public to have an understanding of how science works – that although it can never give an absolutely watertight answer, that it is usually pretty solid when it comes to a conclusion, and can be trusted!
Failing that, I would like to have political leaders that made decisions based on facts and evidence, and that shaped public opinion, rather than following it in popularity contests.

We would have enough clean drinking water for all the world’s people and an ocean without plastic pollution – oh that’s 2 sorry

That’s a tricky one, since there are so many things I’d like to change!
I would increase the amount of funding to basic scientific research. Most of the greatest breakthroughs in science have come by simply trying to understand how the world around us works.

Environmental assets, be they forests, oceans, deserts or polar regions, be given a value that truly reflected their uniqueness and importance to the planet. If endangered species were considered as precious are gold or diamonds, nations would fight for their survival rather than accepting the declines that are occurring globally.
As the Native American Proverb says “We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.” Will the earth you inherit be better than the one our generation received? While it is unlikely – that would be the one thing I would change 🙂
