I’m a Scientist is like school science lessons meet the X Factor! School students choose which scientist gets a prize of $1000 to communicate their work.
Scientists and students talk on this website. They both break down barriers, have fun and learn. But only the students get to vote.
This zone is the Boron Zone. It has a range of scientists studying all different topics. Who gets the prize? YOU decide!
There is logic to it – but as far as I know there is absolutely no way to prove it. What you are talking about is the “many worlds” interpretation of quantum mechanics – that every time a system has to choose between one option or another – that the universe splits and each possibility is realised. It is philosophically appealing due to the symmetry involved…. but the mind-boggling number of universes splitting off every nanosecond makes it a bit hard to swallow for most physicists I think.

not that I know of…

Seems like a bit of a stretch to me – as Matthew pointed out. And how would we detect or measure them if they did exist? 🙁

There are people who think that there are multiple universes, and several of the theories that combine quantum theory and gravity together either allow them or even require them. There is no evidence for parallel worlds or multiple universes however, and as a couple of the others have suggested, it is difficult to see how one could test for it. Because of this most physicists and astronomers don’t really believe that they exist.
Put simply, if you can’t test a hypothesis (like parallel worlds) then it’s not science.
