Question: What do you think is beyond the event horizon of a black hole?

Keywords:

  1. That’s a difficult one to answer actually! When I was at university I learnt that everything that comes near a black hole is captured by its intense gravity, but no one ever really talked much about what happens to it or where it goes. I think that all mass is probably converted into energy (through E=mc^2), but I love science fiction stories, so part of me would love to think that there was a gateway to another dimension. Very unlikely, but wouldn’t it be great?

  2. I don’t think we really know. The physics of black holes isn’t really very precise I believe, because you need to combine quantum theory with gravity – and that is a MAJOR problem that many people are trying to solve, but there hasn’t been a lot of progress in the last 30 years!
