Question: Do black holes have any energy?

Keywords: ,

  1. One for the physic/spaces boys.

  2. Hmm, well they have plenty of mass, and via E=mc^2 that means they have energy. Physicists have sat down and worked out some of the thermodynamics of black holes by various means, but it is all a little uncertain. An interesting fact – they have negative heat capacity – so as they gain energy they get colder!

  4. They definitely have energy: if they’re pulling in matter and light, which has energy, then, since energy must be conserved, the black hole has energy too.
