There are 100s of thousands of animals, if not millions are waiting to be discovered or described. Most of these animals however do not have backbones.
As far as the animals with backbones are concerned – we are continuing to find species on a regular basis. With advances in genetic testing the number of micro-bat species have increased by ~30 over the last 20 years. New reptile, amphibian and fish species continue to be described and occasionally a new bird is also discovered as search techniques are improved or difficult to reach places investigated.
