I’m a Scientist is like school science lessons meet the X Factor! School students choose which scientist gets a prize of $1000 to communicate their work.
Scientists and students talk on this website. They both break down barriers, have fun and learn. But only the students get to vote.
This zone is the Boron Zone. It has a range of scientists studying all different topics. Who gets the prize? YOU decide!
Imagine you have a ball bearing rolling back and forth in a bowl. If it doesn’t have enough speed at the bottom, it can’t get over the lip of the bowl and escape. Ie below a certain energy, the ball is trapped in the bowl
The theory of quantum mechanics says that for microscopic particles, this is no longer true. Even if the particle doesn’t have enough energy to escape, there is a small probability that it can escape. This is called quantum tunneling.
