I’m a Scientist is like school science lessons meet the X Factor! School students choose which scientist gets a prize of $1000 to communicate their work.
Scientists and students talk on this website. They both break down barriers, have fun and learn. But only the students get to vote.
This zone is the Boron Zone. It has a range of scientists studying all different topics. Who gets the prize? YOU decide!
There are two parts to this answer (I think I touched on it briefly in our chat session today). The first part is philosophical: by understanding what’s out there in space, we can answer questions like “Are we alone in the Universe?” and better understand our place in the universe. We can also look at the universe and space to understand how the Earth formed and how life started.
The second part is technological: one of the great technological advances of the last 20 years is the invention of wireless internet, which was invented to get radio telescopes to communicate with each other so they could observe black holes. Many imaging techniques in medicine were derived by astronomers. And without understanding space, we would not have global position systems (GPS). So there are lots of spin offs that benefit society!
