The largest turtle (at adult size) is the leatherback turtle (dermochelys coriacea). They can grow up to 2 metres in length and weigh close to 1000kg. Along side saltwater crocodiles they are the largest reptiles on the planet.
Interestingly the largest turtle species also grows the fastest
The smallest sea turtles are the olive ridley (lepidochelys olivacea) and the kemps ridley turtles (lepidochelys kepi). They grow to around 70cm in length and weigh ~60kg.
The other five turtles are all in the middle (see sea turtle.org)
The smallest turtles in the world are some of the freshwater turtles that may only grow to 10-15cm and weigh 500g to 1kg.
by the way owls I see that you think the greatest invention is the iPad – checkout the free cachalot app for marine species. It is cool, especially the fatback turtle page that I wrote 🙂
