Question: I remember once when I was little I visited our farm, and when we opened the door to the shed, a huge swarm of huntsman spiders came out from behind it. I've never seen them in this larger type of group, (around 50 of them). Does this happen for a reason?

Although I don’t know the location – It is likely that you encountered a Social Huntsman (Delena cancerides). Unlike most spiders which are solitary, these spiders tend to exist in large groups – which may be up to 300 strong.

The group you saw of around 50 is likely to be typical.
