I’m a Scientist is like school science lessons meet the X Factor! School students choose which scientist gets a prize of $1000 to communicate their work.
Scientists and students talk on this website. They both break down barriers, have fun and learn. But only the students get to vote.
This zone is the Boron Zone. It has a range of scientists studying all different topics. Who gets the prize? YOU decide!
No I don’t work every second of the day. Yes I probably work more than most people, but when your really interested in what you do – it often doesn’t feel like work!
I also have a family that I love to spend time with, make time for sport, pursue some hobbies and do a lot of reading. Achieving a balance can be difficult, but I also feel it offers the most rewarding life. 😀

I’d like to think that I’m not scary! 😉 I don’t work every second of the day, since I think it’s important that we all have interests outside work. I also love being with friends and family!
So I’d say that movies and TV shows paint a very inaccurate picture of us scientists!

Ha ha, that’s very funny! No, definitely not. We’re actually very normal people who do normal stuff outside work, like spending time with friends and family, doing various hobbies, sports, whatever. I guess there are some scientists who are more like the crazy mad antisocial sterotype that you see in some movies. Actually I know a few of them…

🙂 no I don’t think I am scary 🙂 I don’t work every second, in fact I need to have the time to do normal family stuff, like taking kids to various sports & events, walking along the beach, swimming, even housework etc. It is all about making a balance between work and home and my partner also has a very busy job so sometimes it is hard but we do OK. I juggle the school pick ups & drop offs 2 days a week, so my working week is not really very traditional.

I’m not much like the scientists you see in movies and on TV… a bit nerdy – yes … perhaps that scares you? I think some of my research students are a bit scared of me – I do have high expectations of them!
At certain times of the year – when things are piling up – I do end up working long hours. My wife isn’t very happy at these times! But at other times life is more balanced, and like the others, I drop off and pick up my kids, try and make sure no work gets done on weekends, etc. Then I have slack weeks as well 🙂
